(RICHARD SPARE) As an experienced and highly talented printmaker Richard Spare spent the early part of his career as a print-maker editioning work for contemporary artists such as David Hockney and Howard Hodgkin. Richard manages to attain an unusual velvety quality in his prints by using the drypoint method of printing. An image is created by scratching directly onto the plate with a sharp needle, as the needle scratches the copper, it throws up on both sides of the line a ridge of metal known as the burr, which yields a soft an velvety line when printed. The prints are then all hand colored after they have been through the printing press. This delicate hand coloring means that no two prints are ever the same.Original Limited Edition Colored Etching on Arches paper. Edition Size:150. Paper Size: 29.75" x 22.5."
